Marco MaiaThe President of the Chamber (the Speaker) represents the Chamber of Deputies in any collective announcement and supervises its work and order. The position is private to born Brazilians. The Speaker's main task is to determine which bills will be considered by the Floor.
Among other duties, the Speaker replaces the President of the Republic and takes part in the Republic Council and in the National Defense Council.
If the Speaker is absent, the Floor sittings are chaired by the immediate deputies: the Vice-Presidents, Secretaries and Substitutes, in this order, or, finally, by the eldest deputy, among those with higher number of mandates
