Committee on the Amazon, National Integration and Regional Development installed today a special sub-committee created for following Belo Monte hydroelectric plant settlement in Pará.

Deputy Wandenkolk Gonçalves (PSDB-PA) will be the sub-committee President. The designated Rapporteur was Deputy Zé Geraldo (PT-PA).

Wandenkolk Gonçalves, who has proposed the sub-committee creation, said that mega-project settlement in Amazon has always been accompanied by immeasurable damage to the whole reached area, due to ecosystems changes. “The sub-committee has as a target a demand inclusion coming from the most different social segments, mainly those of related by municipal managers of the project area coverage, which should be included at the bidding document of the announced work by the Federal Government", he affirmed.

The next sub-committee meeting has not been defined yet.
