24/11/2010 01h05

The Committee on Public Safety and on Fighting against Organized Crime, on Tuesday, approved the text of the agreement signed in 2008 among Brazil, Peru, and Colombia to combat the crimes committed in common rivers or border rivers. The rapporteur on the commission, deputy Raul Jungmann, advocated the adoption of the proposal (PDC 2820/10).

The agreement provides that the countries should develop coordinated actions to stem the traffic of suspected vessels, which are or are entering such rivers. For this, the security authorities of the three nations will implement, among other activities, the (a) exchange of tactical information and intelligence; (b) data exchange to develop operations, warning in advance the border units; and (c) share experiences in combating crime and misdemeanors committed in the border areas.

Procedure The project, which had already been approved by the Commission on Roads and Transport, will still be considered by the Commission on Constitution and Justice and on Citizenship (CCJC), before heading to the plenary sitting.
