On Wednesday (7th), the Committee on Foreign Relations and National Defence approved the creation of positions for the preparation of the 5th World Military Games, that shall be accomplished in 2011, in the city of Rio de Janeiro. More than seven thousand athletes and leaders will attend the games to be played in 38 sport modalities.

The World Military Games consist in a quadrennial sports event, organized in a rotation system among the member countries, and it is based on the Olympic spirit. They are promoted by the International Military Sport Council and the main aims are the union of all Armed Forces by the sport and the preservation of peace.

Due to the fact of addressing a specific purpose in a specified period of time for the closing, the permanence of these positions and rewards in the Ministry of Defence will be temporary. There will be no increase in expenditures since the bill generates 25 positions in the committee and 42 rewards; on the other hand, extinguishes 446 technical commissioned-paid functions that were vacant.

The planning, organization and accomplishment of the World Military Games Rio 2011 are concentrated on the Ministry of Defence.

National aspirations
For the rapporteur in the Committee, Deputy Maurício Rands (PT-PE), that presented a report on behalf of the bill, the success or the failure of these games will cause an impact over the national aspirations of encouraging the sports, tourism and provision of services, obstructing the progress of the country. Due to this, he considers important that there is no doubt that Brazil is capable of hosting the 2016 Olympics.

In process
The bill has a conclusive nature and will be analyzed by the Committees on Finances and Taxation, Constitution and Justice and Citizenship.
