The bill, presented by the Deputy Sandra Rosado (PSB-RN), determines that laws produced in Brazil use the words “man” and “woman” always when the texts regards people from both genders. The objective of that Complementary Law bill (PLP) 438/08 is to introduce gender-inclusive language in Brazilian legislation.

The bill amends Complementary Law 95/98, which established procedures for the wording of Brazilian laws. According to Sandra Rosado, its proposal guarantees linguistic equality between men and women in official texts. “That is a way of fighting the exclusion of women”, she said.

Example
An example of the enforcement of PLP 438 is the Art. 1.011 of the Civil Code. That device determines that the administrators of the societies should base their behavior with the care that every “active and fair man is used to employing in the administration of his own businesses.”

If the bill of the congressman already said that at the time of the voting of the Civil Code, the wording would bring “man and woman” to the text.

Procedure
The bill will be analyzed by the Committee on the Constitution and Justice and Citizenship. It follows afterwards for the voting in two turns of the House.
