On Thursday (23), the Committee on the Constitution and Justice and Citizenship (CCJ) approved the Bill 2448/07, proposed by Deputy Walter Ihoshi (DEM-SP), which names "Comendador Hiroshi Sumida" the bridge on the Ribeira de Iguape river, on BR-116 highway, in the city of Registro (SP). The bill, approved in conclusive character, is being forwarded to Senate.

Hiroshi Sumida was a Japanese immigrant who became a councilman in Registro – and is considered as one of the responsible people for the duplication of the Régis Bittencourt (BR-116) Highway, known as the “Highway of Death”. Sumida died in 1993. Two years before, he had been awarded by the Emperor of Japan Akihito with the "Order of the Sacred Treasure - Fifth Grade” , because of the work he performed in fostering cultural exchange between Brazil and Japan.

The rapporteur on the CCJ, Deputy Regis de Oliveira (PSC-SP), considered the bill as constitutional and defended its approval.
