Cities with infrastructure can have priority to become EPZs

EPZs should count with a minimum infrastructure and adequate logistics

The Bill 4199/08, authored by Deputy Márcio França (PSB-SP), guarantees the priority to locations in metropolitan regions, in the neighborhood of ports and airports and with a lower Human Development Rate (HDR), when areas for the establishment of Export Processing Zones (EPZs) are to be chosen.

That bill amends Law 11.508/07, which regulates the tax, currency and administrative regimes of the EPZs. The undertakings in those areas receive tax and currency incentives, in addition to having a streamlined customs treatment.

Attracting investments
The deputy argues that, in order to fully operate, the EPZs need a minimum infrastructure and adequate logistics, inclusively to guarantee the attraction of foreign investments and the transfer of technology to domestic industry.

“Thus, the closeness to ports and airports and the existence of university and technological centers in vital” argues the author of the bill.

Procedure
The bill, which is being processed in conclusive character, will be reviewed by the Committees on Economic Development, Industry and Commerce; and on Finances and Taxation; and on the Constitution and Justice and Citizenship.
