The Chamber is reviewing the Bill 4532/08, proposed by the Deputy Mauro Mariani (PMDB-SC), which holds producers and importers of automotive glasses responsible for the final destination of those glasses, which should be environmentally adequate, after their disposal by their final consumers.

"The recycling of automotive glasses, in addition to freeing the environment from a substance of difficult degradation, reduces the need of new raw material of mineral origin, especially sand, for the production of new glasses, and contributes to the sustainability of the automotive industry”, argues the deputy.

Disposal centers
According to the Bill, each producer or importer should collect the automotive glasses it had distributed, by means of disposal or warehousing centers. The collected material must be re-used, recycled, or destructed, depending on the case.

The traders of automotive glasses, on their turn, should collect their waste and forward it to disposal and warehousing centers.

Environmental crime
The bill outlaws the disposal of automotive glasses together with regular waste, and in rivers, reservoirs, weirs, lakes, lagoons, beaches, roadsides and empty lots. Whoever does it will be liable for environmental crimes.

The producers and importers of automotive glasses will also be liable for environmental crimes if they trespass those rules.

Procedure
The bill is being processed together with another 75 bills. Their texts are being analyzed by a work group which evaluates the review issued by the special committee which discussed them. After the conclusion of that work, the bills will be voted at the House Floor.
