Parlasul will analyze the creation of Center against natural disasters

The Mercosul Parliament (Parlasul) will hold its house-floor session on Monday (27) and on Tuesday (28), in Asuncion (Paraguay). Among the subjects on its agenda is the bill which recommends the creation of a Center for Regional Emergency Operations, a body aiming at actuating in the climatic monitoring and in the preparation of assistance actions against natural disasters in the countries of Mercosul. That bill defines the headquarters of that Center of Operations be in the Paraguayan capital.

The congresspeople will also analyze the bill which recommends the creation of the Mercosul’s Permanent Secretariat for the Elderly, which should create and implement legislation and policies to improve the life conditions of the elderly. Another function of that secretariat would be to encourage the cooperation among governments, the civil society and the private sector, to establish actions regarding the population aging.

Cooperatives’ Act
The agenda of Parlasul includes the bill on the creation of the Cooperatives’ Act of Mercosul, which aims at harmonizing legislation and public policies on the cooperative sector in the countries belonging to the bloc, and to facilitate cooperative activities in border regions.

Parlasul will also debate the bill recommending to the Brazilian and Paraguayan governments to expedite the construction of a second bridge over the river Paraná (connecting Foz do Iguaçu, in Brazil, to the port Presidente Franco, in Paraguay).

Among the themes which will be discussed are also the proportionality on the composition of Parlasul (criterion on the size of the caucuses), the creation of the Superior Court of Justice of Mercosul and the adoption of Guarani as the official language of the bloc, together with Portuguese and Spanish.

Parlasul will meet on Monday, from 8 a.m. on, and on Tuesday, from 9 a.m. The meetings will be held at the Paraguayan National Congress.
