Committee approves fare exemption in flights to South America

Measure will foster tourism among countries of this region and contribute to the narrowing of their commercial relations

The Traffic and Transportation Committee approved on Wednesday (5), the Bill 1039/07, proposed by the Deputy Ciro Nogueira (PP-PI), which exempts passengers on flights to South American countries from the payment of the Additional Airport Fare (Ataero). Established by Law 7.920/89, the Ataero corresponds to 50% of the amount of other airport charges.

High Value
Ataero costs currently 36 U.S. Dollars on the main airports of the country. In an air ticket from Sao Paulo to Buenos Aires, for example, adding airport rates and Ataero, passengers have to pay 54 U.S. Dollars.
The rapporteur, Deputy Vanderlei Macri (PSDB-SP), considers this value "extremely high", when considering that an airline ticket to that destination can be found for around $ 200.

Procedure
The bill was deemed conclusive power, and will still be reviewed by the Committees for Finance and Taxation; and Constitution and Justice and Citizenship.
