Ingrid Betancourt receives Legislative Merit Medal

The Chamber of Deputies helds on Wednesday (10 December) a ceremony to award the Medal of Legislative Merit, on the National Congress’ Black Hall. Among the honored is former Colombian senator Ingrid Betancourt, who was kidnapped during nearly seven years by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).

Doctors, professors, ministers, politicians and businessmen are among the decorated, and yet, the AfroReggae Cultural Group and Usiminas steel complex.

The Legislative Merit Medal was established in 1983, aiming to honor citizens, institutions or organizations, campaigns, national or international programs or movements of social, civil or military nature, which have somehow contributed to Brazil.

The names of the honored with the medals were appointed by the members of the House, through the Second Secretariat, body responsible to manage it, and granted by the President of the House, deputy Arlindo Chinaglia.
