8 de enero: Democracia en Foco

El 8 de enero de 2023, una multitud invadió y vandalizó los centros de poder del país. La Cámara de Diputados, el Senado Federal, la Presidencia de la República y el Tribunal Supremo Federal fueron blanco de la turba y atacados violentamente de manera cobarde. Intentaron, pero no lograron destruir ni los edificios ni el símbolo máximo del pilar de la democracia brasileña, los Tres Poderes de la República.

La respuesta institucional implicó una unión inquebrantable entre el Legislativo, el Ejecutivo y el Judicial, que adoptaron todas las medidas legales pertinentes. La reconstrucción física y simbólica continuó, destacando la importancia de mantener el régimen democrático del país.

En su discurso como Presidente de la Cámara, Arthur Lira reafirmó su compromiso con la Constitución y la Democracia.

Ecoando la defensa de las instituciones, Lira afirmó:

"[...] el Brasil diverso y multicultural solo es posible porque es democrático.

En este Brasil ya no hay espacio para aquellos que atentan contra los poderes que simbolizan nuestra democracia.

Esta Casa no acogerá, defenderá ni respaldará ningún acto, discurso o manifestación que atente contra la democracia. Quienes actúen de esta manera recibirán el repudio de este Parlamento, el rechazo del pueblo brasileño y los rigores de la ley. Para aquellos que vandalizaron, destruyeron y avergonzaron al pueblo brasileño, sí habrá el rigor de la ley.

El episodio destacó la resistencia a las amenazas contra la Democracia y la actuación coherente de los poderes de la República en defensa de Brasil.

Esta exposición presenta registros fotográficos del 8 de enero y fragmentos de los obsequios protocolarios que fueron dañados por los invasores, y que están en proceso de restauración por profesionales de la Cámara de Diputados.

January 8 – Democracy in Focus

On January 8, 2023, a crowd invaded and vandalized the centers of power in the country. The Chamber of Deputies, the Federal Senate, the Presidency of the Republic, and the Federal Supreme Court were targets of the horde and violently attacked in a cowardly manner. They attempted but failed to destroy both the structures and the ultimate symbol of the pillar of Brazilian democracy, the Three Powers of the Republic.

The institutional response involved an unbreakable union among the Legislative, Executive, and Judiciary branches, which adopted all relevant legal measures. Physical and symbolic reconstruction proceeded, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the country's democratic regime.

In his address as the President of the Chamber, Arthur Lira reaffirmed his commitment to the Constitution and Democracy.

Echoing the defense of institutions, Lira stated:

"[...] diverse, multicultural Brazil is only possible because it is democratic.

In this Brazil, there is no longer room for those who threaten the powers that symbolize our democracy.

This House will not welcome, endorse, or support any act, speech, or manifestation that undermines democracy. Those who act in this way will face the repudiation of this Parliament, the rejection of the Brazilian people, and the rigors of the law. For those who vandalized, destroyed, and shamed the Brazilian people, there will indeed be the full force of the law."

The episode highlighted the resilience against threats to democracy and the consistent actions of the Republic's powers in defense of Brazil.
