Artista plástico. Antes de se dedicar ao desenho gráfico, estudou e trabalhou em São Paulo, Jerusalém, Londres e Oslo. Em 1977, graduou-se em artes gráficas pelo Hornsey College of Art, Londres. Em 1981, a Divisão de Direitos Humanos das Nações Unidas patrocinou exibição em Nova York, Genebra e Viena de suas ilustrações dos 30 artigos da Declaração de Direitos Humanos, publicadas, posteriormente, no livro La Déclaration Universelle Adaptée pour les Enfants, com texto de Ruth Rocha. Também com Ruth Rocha publicou O Livro da Escrita, O Livro do Papel e O Livro das Línguas, todos da coleção O Homem e a Comunicação, que, em 1993, recebeu o prêmio Jabuti. Em 1982, o Museu de Arte de São Paulo e o Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro apresentaram seus trabalhos na exposição Um Homem.

Sobre os painéis

A obra reproduz o preâmbulo da Constituição de 1988 e o artigo nº 5 que trata dos direitos e
deveres individuais e coletivos. O texto foi escrito colaborativamente (como a
Constituição) por mais de cinco mil cidadãos, convidados a desenhar seus nomes em pedaços de papel colorido, cada letra em um quadrado.

Visual artist. Before dedicating himself to graphic design, he studied and worked in São Paulo, Jerusalem, London, and Oslo. In 1977, he earned a degree in graphic arts from Hornsey College of Art, London. In 1981, the Human Rights Division of the United Nations sponsored exhibitions in New York, Geneva, and Vienna of his illustrations of the 30 articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, later published in the book La Déclaration Universelle Adaptée pour les Enfants, with text by Ruth Rocha. Also with Ruth Rocha, he published O Livro da Escrita (The Book of Writing), O Livro do Papel (The Book of Paper), and O Livro das Línguas (The Book of Languages), all part of the series O Homem e a Comunicação (Man and Communication), which received the Jabuti Prize in 1993. In 1982, the São Paulo Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro presented his work in the exhibition Um Homem (A Man).

About the panels

The work reproduces the preamble of the 1988 Constitution and Article 5, which addresses individual and collective rights and duties. The text was written collaboratively (like the Constitution itself) by more than five thousand citizens, who were invited to draw their names on pieces of colored paper, each letter placed within a square.
