Bia Doria

Escultora. Filha de imigrantes italianos, Bia Doria nasceu em Santa Catarina mas vive em São Paulo desde 1980, onde mantém seu ateliê. Estudou e trabalhou em ourivesaria, criando joias com pedras brasileiras. A partir de 2002, seu foco de interesse voltou-se para o estudo das formas da natureza e da flora brasileira. Admiradora do trabalho do escultor Frans Krajcberg, fez dele seu mestre e inspirador, trabalhando e aprendendo com o grande escultor polonês radicado no Brasil. Bia Doria tem na natureza a matéria-prima e o motivo de seu trabalho. Suas obras são feitas a partir de resíduos de floresta de manejo, produtos sustentáveis e árvores nativas resgatadas em queimadas, desmatamentos, fundo de rios e barragens, refletindo seu engajamento com as questões ecológicas e sua preocupação em alertar sobre os desastres ocorridos no Brasil e no mundo. Realizou várias exposições pelo Brasil e em outros países, como França, Alemanha, Estados Unidos e Itália, onde ganhou prêmios em esculturas na 10ª Bienal de Florença em 2015, Tivoli - Scuderie Estensi em Roma, 2016, e o 35º Prêmio Internacional Fontane di Roma, concedido pela Accademia Internazionale La Sponda.

About the artist

Sculptor. The daughter of Italian immigrants, Bia Doria was born in Santa Catarina but has lived in São Paulo since 1980, where she maintains her studio. She studied and worked in jewelry-making, creating pieces with Brazilian stones. Beginning in 2002, her artistic focus shifted toward the study of natural forms and Brazilian flora. An admirer of the sculptor Frans Krajcberg, she regarded him as her mentor and source of inspiration, working and learning alongside the great Polish-born artist who settled in Brazil. Nature is both the raw material and the central theme of Bia Doria’s work. Her sculptures are created from sustainably sourced forest remnants and native trees salvaged from burn sites, deforestation areas, riverbeds, and reservoirs—materials that reflect her ecological engagement and her concern with raising awareness about environmental disasters in Brazil and around the world. She has held numerous exhibitions in Brazil and abroad, including in France, Germany, the United States, and Italy, where she received awards for sculpture at the 10th Florence Biennale in 2015, at Tivoli – Scuderie Estensi in Rome in 2016, and the 35th International Fontane di Roma Prize, granted by the Accademia Internazionale La Sponda.
